The Perfect Gift For Mother’s Day
Finding that special something for your mother or the mother of your children is something dads and kids can sometimes really struggle with. After all, this is one of the truest loves in your life we’re talking about here – the woman who represents everything in the world you know about giving and undying devotion.
When you put it that way, is there anything that really is good enough? That’s the thing, a mother appreciates you for what YOU DO, not what you should have done.
The saying “It’s the thought that counts” is an important thing to remember here. A $10 gift card to Buster’s Burger Wagon would be considered pretty low-rent… unless, of course, she really likes the food there. But with that in mind, The Love Guy is here to give you a few ideas of his own.
Whatever you decide on, remember that gifts are nice and all, but this is a day for Mom. Make her breakfast. Give her a DAY. And most importantly, make sure she knows that above all else, she has your love and appreciation. That’ll make even the shiniest of presents just the icing on the mother’s day cake.
Give something personalized:
There are several great websites out there with ideas on how to make a unique, personalized gift for everything from linens to clothing to beauty items. Check personlizationmall.com for the widest variety of ideas – you can find something she’ll truly enjoy keeping for years and years.
Give something hand-made:
Thanks to websites like etsy.com – you can really find that one-of-a-kind “this is perfect for her” gift. Let’s face it, there’s always that voice in the back of your head saying “But how many other moms out there are getting this very same gift for Mother’s Day?” Plus, you’ll be supporting the independent arts and crafts people who are often doing this to make a living. Maybe a mom themselves, even!
Give something you made yourself:
Now this is where it gets tricky. It doesn’t have to be an actual “thing” – if you’re like me and have five thumbs on each hand, there are a whole lot of great ideas that you can use your computer to make. What about a photo book? You can customize your own on shutterfly.com or Apple (if you use iPhoto) and make a sentimental look at years past to be treasured for this day forward. And all those digital photos you’ve got piling up on your laptop and your phone really aren’t “pictures” until they’re on the page.
Have something old “made new” again:
Maybe it’s a family heirloom, or a long-lost broken piece of jewelry she’s had lying around and been meaning to get fixed for what’s been years now. Or maybe it’s a shoebox of old photographs of her as a child that you’d like to have professionally cleaned up and framed. If that’s got a light bulb going off over your head, you’ve got enough time to find a local jeweler or photo retoucher to give Mom something with double the sentimental value.
So that’s what the Love Guy’s got in the way of suggestions for this Mother’s Day. Good luck – I know from personal experience just how tricky what even the simplest token of your gratitude can look like!
