Mother’s Day Breakfast-In-Bed-For-Dads
Up until recently, B.I.B. was a staple of Mother’s Day. One part heartfelt sentiment, one part comedy for Mom, Dads and husbands have been almost burning down kitchens for decades in this timeless charade.
I think it’s gone away for a few reasons. The first is what I just said, Dads and husbands generally make for some pretty bad, if not downright hazardous chefs! The second, and I mean this – I just don’t think we as men are as good at showing our appreciation for the women in our lives as our own dads were. But does that mean give up? Absolutely, positively not.
This Mother’s Day, the Love Guy is here to help with a couple of simple-to-prepare, hard-to-mess-up . That’s where even I have been going wrong in years past. My wife has never EVER ordered crepes suzette or Eggs Benedict in all the years we’ve been married – so what in God’s name was I trying to do cooking it?
So, without further ado:
LoveNotes French Toast:
Ingredients
1 egg (or 2 egg whites)
¾ cup milk
1 ½ tablespoons (several big pinches) ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ cup of crushed walnuts
Dash of salt
2 big thick slices of French bread
Directions
1. Beat together everything but the bread
2. Heat a lightly oiled skillet over medium heat.
3. Soak bread slices in egg mixture for 20 second on each side, or until thoroughly coated. Cook bread until both sides are lightly browned and crisp.
Serve with some whipped cream and fresh fruit. Enjoy your morning!
Perfect Beginnings
Ingredients
Fruit Parfait
½ lb fresh strawberries
1 peach (fresh)
1 apple
2 cups granola
1 pint vanilla yogurt
Love Guy Mimosa
1 bottle Prosecco
Fresh orange and pomegranate juice
Directions
Slice fruit and stir into yogurt with granola. Pour into parfait glass or small bowl and serve with multi-grain toast.
Mix equal parts Prosecco (or sparkling wine) with orange juice in champagne flutes – top with a dash of the pomegranate juice for a nice sweet finish.
Indulgent? Yes, absolutely. Like a back rub or a piece of cake, this breakfast will start your Mother’s Day off with a perfect amount of sweet and savory. If you’re lucky you might just have some time for desert.
Remember, no matter what – presentation is everything! Some fresh cut flowers and a nice tray really go a long way to covering any goofs in your cooking!
And to moms and moms of moms everywhere? Happy Mother’s Day! Nobody appreciates you for all you do quite like The Love Guy!
